Habitat:	Sand and gravel beaches, sandstone cliffs, saline flats in Lepidophyllum scrub to 20 metres above sea-level and north to latitude 40° 30' south[69].

Physical Characteristics

Annual growing to 0.08m. . The seeds ripen from August to September. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs). The plant is self-fertile. We rate it 2/5 for edibility and 0/5 for medicinal use.

The plant prefers light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils and can grow in saline soil. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It requires dry or moist soil. The plant can tolerate maritime exposure.

Seed - raw or cooked. It can be ground into a meal and used with cereal powders in making bread etc[69].
